I figured it out! For the last two weeks sending mail in Eudora caused windows 2000 to crash. I would get a BSOD saying DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. The error reports it as happening in the file NDIS.SYS and that it is now BEGINNING DUMP OF PHYSICAL MEMORY.
Also, about two weeks ago i installed the latest drivers for my Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter(LNE100TX v4) network card. This was the problem. Apparently, ndis.sys doesn't always play well with others. So i reinstalled the original drivers that came with my card, once again regaining my email proficiency.
02/18/2002 UPDATE
I jinxed myself. Shortly after writing this entry my computer crashed again after a 2 week hiatus.
So i removed the Linksys network card and put in a cheap one. Haven't had any problems since.

I found a site that may have
I found a site that may have the solution to our problem. I did the steps and so far all is well. If I get the dreaded blue screen with the driver_IRQL.......again I'll post again. Here's the page with a solution.

sorry guys :-( no good news.
Since couple of months i have problem with the BSOD. I have found out that DC++ is the reason. In the beginning when I installed DC++ i had absolutely no problem with BSOD. The problem appeared after some months. May be it is because of some new version of DC++ but I am not sure, I know some other guys using the same version without any problem with BSOD. I have uninstalled DC++,restarted pc, downloaded a new version, installed BUT the problem remains. I tried to change some settings in DC++ BUT no change.. The problem of BSOD vanished by itself for a while BUT ops!! it came back yesterday. When i saw this link (http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBM/tip6000/rh6045.htm)
I got more than happy!! BUT...after following the instructions the problem remains. IF someone has a good solution for this problem PLEASE, PLEASE write about it here. GOOD LUCK!
P.S. I am using windows xp home edition.

ANSWERS? my findings
The problem is due to about 4 different bugs:
Basically ive been researching this problem for about a week now.
My problem surfaced in my 2k box when i tried to download large files(aka movies) via bittorrent/shareaza. I got the dreaded BSoD!!!
Basically, the problem occurs either with an IRQ conflict (easily fixed, just go to device manager and change your NIC's IRQ--- it tends to be in conflict with either a graphics card or a root Hub) or in some cases a "buffering conflict" between where you NIC places data in RAM when it overflows (if you directly behind a switch) and some other device's memory address.
IF those arent your problem then you need to get in contact with your NIC producer; revert your driver back to the one that came with the actual NIC seems to be the one of choice from what i can see. It appears that theres something conflicting about the new NDIS patch MS released and newer drivers.
IF that doesnt work; you're screwed, replace your NIC. DOnt cheap out this time, get a 3com. I found one that works for a little less (at 12.99 Best buy's Dynex DXe101 seems to be working so far).
These are my findings, helpful or not, i tried

My findings as well
I have the same error however I think it can vary from person to person. I too have an nVidia card but my BSOD comes about when I am using Winamp 5 and fast forwarding through an mp3. It sometimes happens when I suddenly switch to a different song but most often occurs when seeking or fast-forwarding. I have an Audigy 2 sound card so that might be my problem right there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Winamp to no avail but I did run across this post in other forums and it does ring true in my case because I have a P4 with Hyperthreading:
The problem is due to a driver timing issue caused by either very high speed CPUs, multiple CPUs, or a single Pentium 4 CPU with hyperthreading enabled.
There is now a patch available at http://updates.visualnetworks.com. This should take care of your problem.
I have NOT tried this so look into it before messing around, I don't even know if it is a specific patch for certain software/things.
My next step will be to put the original Audigy 2 drivers on the computer and then try playing mp3s and see if it crashes again.
I have been having the same p
I have been having the same problem over and over since i installed sp2. While downloading via shareazaa it just crashes... Everything else works... i too have the hm121di modem
happens to me only when downl
happens to me only when downloading using bit torrent on a fresh install of windows xp sp2. tried numerous things going to try the usb no error thing explained above a few posts.
I have solved this problem.....
I constantly used to get a BSOD whenever I downloaded a big file from bit torrent. I also have a netgear NIC and it's a pile of sh*te if you ask me, so to begin with, change your NIC card, tho if you're short on money, try this little trick:
go to device manager.for those who don't know.. click start --> settings --> control panel --> System --> hardware tab --> Device manager --> then when it lists all your components, at the top press on the View tab, and then go down to "Show hidden devices" once you do this, a new branch will be visible under the network adapter branch called: "Non Plug and play drivers" a long list of all the devices will be shown once you press the + sign. scroll down and find NDIS System Driver. Right click to see it's properties and then press on the "driver" tab at the top. once here, look at the botom where it says "startup" change the setting to automatic.
this fixed it for me. no more BSOD!!! wooo!
sorry for such a long winded explanation, i wanted to make it easy for everyone. hope this helps
... didn't solve mine
I get BSOD when using Shareaza (bit torrent) and soemtimes when doing lots of downloads and browising.
I tried the above "fix" and my machine wouldn't even boot, every time it got to launching Windows it would just restart - no BSOD though ;-).
As always milage varies I guess.
Thank you so much - It worked.
Thanks for detailed steps, I followed the same and it worked for me :)

Re: that Dynex NIC. Where can I get the drivers? I'm fixing a friend's computer, and she no longer has the disc that came with it.
Nothing on their website, nothing at driverguide.com. Googling provides no answers.

HI I have had the same problem as well. I purchased a brand new system and as soon as someone uploaded from me I got the BSOD..The I connected the adsl modem to my son's machine (also brandnew) then his system would crash as soon as someone uploaded.
I then went to DCpro and didn't have the problem at all but dcpro had other problems.
I still don't know the answer for you but only to confirm I get the problem with DC++ (version .306 and 402) they are the two I tried.
Come to think of it I started to get the problems as soon as I went to the hashing version...

Same problem
I have having the same problem with the latest version on win 2k
I can recreate this error at will.
All I have to do is try to open Along.Came.Polly.SVCD.TS-FUJiTiVE in Windows Media Player and the error pops up everytime. I know WMP doesn't usually play svcd but mines patched and up until now has played everything I've tried but that one. BTW, it plays fine in PowerDVD & on both of my standalone dvds. Explain that one...
stopping the BSOD
Go to the device manager via computer managemment (on xp, control panal on 98) click the plus sign on your Univeral Serial Bus controllers
Right click Intel USB Universal Host... or whatever has intel in front of it on your USB
Go to properties>>> the advanced tab, and down at the bottom Check where it says "Don't tell me about USB errors" and walla
While this doesn't fix the problem, it stops the BSOD (Blue screen of death) for the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error
Made me laugh
i just started having this problem today. i was getting really pissed off with my pc, but at least the "Blue screen of death" thing cheered me up. whoever came up with that is a legend.
updating drivers
I had the same BSOD and was getting extremely pissed off. I was running my internet connection through another computer via LAN and every time there was any internet activity, i would get the BSOD. I had recently updated all my drivers and having read this forum, thought it was obviously that. I systematically went through all my drivers and reinstalled them, uninstalled them and rolled them back etc. to try and fix the problem. I am running an Asus P4S8X-X and it was the updated LAN driver that had stuffed everything up. The Asus motherboard has given me nothing but trouble since i bought it and i would never buy from Asus again... (Thank god it wasn't my radeon 9700 Pro...)
updating drivers
I had trouble to .Had a internal adsl modem,I went to external adsl modem problem was solved .Hope this helps. Al
That Eudora Crash.....
Thank you so much for having this Blog. I have a staff member who has Win2K Pro on a Compaq. I had contacted Qualcomm on it and they said get the latest IE - hah! Nothing was on their support pages about it either. Kept trying the latest Eudora upgrades - no dice. It always happened when sending after replying or forwarding mail - always had something to do with x-flow, or something like that in message. A complete reformat of the drive did not solve the problem. Yes, the workstation has a Linksys network card! A few others have Linksys cards, but still using Windows 98. We avoid Outlook Express completely. I'm replacing immediately.
P2P Programs
i have noticed that the BOSD only happens when i run a P2p program and nothing else. Kazza, DC++, Bit torrent all of these give me the BSOD.
mirc does it to me
I am an avid IRC user ... when ever I have mirc open on my other PC after a few hours the PC will do a full coredump and NDIS.SYS is in the error msg. The NIC in that computer is a Netgear FA311/FA312 PCI Adapter and I am running the origional drivers from the OEM Driver Disk. And I am still having reboot issues. Would in this case upgrading to the latest version correct this problem? Or shoyuld I just risk it and try it? Please someone help! This server is running Win2k-Adv-Srv and is a LAN-Login Server as well and intranet E-mail Server and I can't afford to wait 6 to 10 before I can tell users it's ok to log back in, it's very anoying to me and my users?
HELP ME PLEASE!

Please help me i cant figure it out at all nothing is helping me IT SUCKS SO BAD I JUST WANT ME DAMN COMPUTER BACK!!! Please help, I love you -Ben Dover
it's not just mIRC
after ALOT of reboots and talks w/ my 2k buddies I narrowed it down. How many of us have nVidia Video Cards? I am now 99% sure it's now a video issue accessing a) a bad part of video memory (system or gpu) b) it's a bad driver (which isn't uncommon for for nVidia to release a bad driver. There support database isn't any help on the subject either as I see nothing on this error.

Thank you! Updating drivers resolved the problem
I couldn't find anything on Eudora's or Microsoft's web sites related to this problem, but fortunately a Dogpile search found your post. I downloaded new drivers for my NIC, SCSI controller and video card and I can finally send mail again.
Thanks!

i found out that i have Blue screen of Death when i put on security for my wireless(PSK-TPK) using peer-2peer-network downloading software like bitcomet or shareaza. but when theres no wireless security, no problems with the BSOD!
