I got home this weekend to find a box from Apress waiting for me. My author copies of Pro Drupal Development had arrived! Up until this point almost everything about the book had been virtual, which usually consisted of email, word processing documents and illustrations. Was this really going to happen?
I've been nervous about the book coming out. What will it look like? Will it do more harm than good? Will this create more Drupal developers?
Inside that box from Apress was 10 shiny copies of the book. I could finally physically touch the thing John and I had been working on for the last year or so. After flipping through the book and seeing how it's all laid out, I discovered a new appreciation for the illustrations, screenshots and code snippets. My nervousness has subsided. It's beautiful and captivating and I'm proud to have it out there. This is my reference book for Drupal and I hope you too have the same feeling. I tell ya, Forms API never looked so good!

Is the book available somewhere other than Amazon? I still try to avoid giving them business (patent trolls), so I'd prefer to buy it elsewhere if at all possible.

Amazon is the only place I've seen the book available so far. It's not even up on the apress site yet. Let me know if you find somewhere else selling it. I'll keep an eye out as well.
You said "...my reference book.."
My copy will arrive in the next day or so. It will be freshly-printed, and even smell "new".
In time, though, I expect it will start taking on that well-worn, well-used, familiar "theme" shared by only a few other books I've kept close thru the years.

I have been so looking forward to this book. My copy Pro Drupal Dev so far has traveled through Kansas City, KS and is currently sitting in Des Moines, IA. Will the next stop be South Dakota? Stay tuned!

Traveling Book - Day 2
I feel like I'm 14 years old again waiting for my Atari Age magazine to arrive in the mail.
Last report is that the book is still in Des Moines. However, it looks as if the USPS tracking system is having database problems. One of the tracking dates is dated December 31, 1969. If the date is correct then Pro Drupal Development is really ahead of its time!

There is a trade arrangement between Amazon.com and Canada XPressPost. Books bought at amazon.com from Canada ship 'over customs' by XPressPost. Given that the Canadian dollar is strong, it may be a kif-kif situation here as to what's more expensive between ordering from the States (with 3.99$ US shipping) and ordering from Amazon.ca. Unless you benefit from free shipping in Canada by ordering another book with that one, because that one won't be enough to cover the minimal expense.
