For some reason my 'about' page seems to be frequented quite often. And while my ego would like to think that I'm some new internet god, the truth is that there's not really much else to look at here. So without further ado, I've added (gasp!) another paragraph unveiling one more mystery behind the man and his keyboard. My resume also got a twiddle or two, reflecting my new job.

Screenscraping the Senate

Paul Ford introduces his plan to create an RDF description of the U.S. federal government. He starts by collecting data on U.S. Senators and converting it to RDF. Future columns will focus on the House of Representatives and the Executive branch.

Telemarketing abounds

Who would have thought that a simple act such as listing your phone number in the newspaper classifieds (I'm selling a car) would lead to telemarketing calls!! Give me a break.

"Hello?"

"Hi, are you selling the Plymouth"

"Yes I am."

"We're calling on behalf of [some other newspaper] to offer you a special promotion to sell your car in our..."

Blogger and the wysiwyg

Looks like blogger implemented a standards-compliant wysiwyg editor. Technical details here.

Rather than using the browser's internal html editing engine, what I'd like to see is ability for content management system to store RTF documents that are converted to well-formed html. Word processing programs are much more reliable at markup since that's their job. I bet Open Office docs could do this, with their native xml storage format.
