Invisible 1-ups

Super Mario Brothers: Finding the invisible mushroom of life

My '1-up' philosophy of life, was, at its time a neo-radical interpretation of the 'everything happens for a reason' concept. Like the original Super Mario Brothers game, life is more fun when you explore it. And sometimes you find the most pleasant surprises like invisible green mushrooms (mmmm) or other hints of a better way to live.

Then along came playstation, or in my case forgetfullness. I haven't played Super Mario Brothers in quite awhile nor had i thought of this concept until last night after reading a letter given to me by a dear friend.

Lately life has been a roller coaster of emotions. Sometimes i'm clutching that safety-constraint bar consumed in my ego-based fear. And at other, more brighter moments i
have enough presence to let go, raise my arms, and enjoy the tasty green mushrooms that come my way. Thanks for the letter and the reminder, friend.

Open Office Templates

I have a presentation to give in the upcoming week and i made it a personal goal not to use PowerPoint. Immediately i went to openoffice.org and saw that presentation software called Impress is bundled with their office suite.

Since there aren't default presentation templates with Impress, i had to do some looking around. I found these resources:

- http://ooextras.sourceforge.net/

But in the end i decided to build my own. The hardest part for me was not saving the template, it was creating the background image so that when i inserted a new slide the background would automatically show up. Here's how to do it:

1. Go to the Master View of the presentation. This is located in the bottom left corner. There will be three small icons, it's the one in the middle that looks like a box with a dark bottom edge. This view controls the entire layout for your presentation. This is the place to put headers and footers.

originaltilly.com: vintage and crafty products

Originaltilly.com is my wife's web site. She was so excited yesterday when a customer bought three of her hand-crafted skinny scarves, making this her first sell! Way to go, hon! I hope you pay your webmaster well.

//Later: Hmmm. I'll make dinner for her. Let's try round two with Pierogies.
